When I first joined Passion Parties back in November 2005, I was definitely overwhelmed about having a direct sales business specializing in passion products. At the time, I had never even used an adult toy, let alone thought about selling passion novelties and body products others. I had telephone coaching calls with my business sponsor at the time (she lived in Calgary, and I lived in Mississauga), but I had a hard time mustering up the motivation and persistence needed to run that type of business. I took a break from the business, but I eventually went back to Passion Parties, and I’m super glad that I did. Passion Parties was bought by Pure Romance about two weeks after New Year’s Day 2016, and I have learned so many lessons from this wonderful industry. If you’re thinking about starting a sensual products sales business, here are some things you should consider before pursuing this path:
This is a job that requires you being very open-minded if you want to be successful. You don’t have to necessarily use all of the products that you’re selling, but you should be able to talk easily with others about the human body and how your products can be used. If you feel squeamish mentioning the words “vagina” or “testicles” then you won’t last long in this industry. You don’t have to use slang words when you describe body parts, and it’s best that you avoid using derogatory terms because you shouldn’t risk offending your customers. But, if you feel uncomfortable discussing topics about human biology and intimacy, then you will need to get yourself comfortable if you want to do well at this field. Remember, your job is to encourage people to become comfortable using your products. If you aren’t comfortable discussing topics about intimacy in a group setting, then you’ll have a hard time convincing people to buy from you.
This career requires objectivity and knowledge in order to be successful. You might need to check your personal values at the door and focus on your customer’s needs. It’s not your job to judge your customer’s preferences; your role is to help a client get what they want. If you feel strongly about marriage and you have issues selling sensual products to people who are single, or divorced, then you need to rethink your choice to do this business.
You need to think like a doctor; medical professionals are supposed to be impartial and avoid imparting their opinions on customers. A doctor could get into legal trouble if she chastises a young single female for seeking a prescription for birth control pills. The doctor shouldn’t be openly telling the patient that marriage is the only acceptable arrangement for two people to consummate their relationship. Similarly, you shouldn’t be criticising your client for not living a lifestyle similar to yours.
Have you personally tried the products that you are marketing? If not, you need to become your first customer. It is easier to market and be enthusiastic about products and services that you are familiar with. Using the products yourself will help you to feel more comfortable selling intimacy products to the public. Even though you need to learn about all of the products in your line so that you can sell them successfully, it’s not necessary for you to use everything that you’re selling. What is important is that you have a good understanding of how your merchandise can impact your customer’s life. Your testimonial will inspire confidence in your customer to try and buy from your company.
