Hello & Goodbye

December 21, 2014
There have been so many changes in the world since my previous blog post was posted in October, and some of these changes were completely and totally unexpected. I was completely surprised when I learned at the beginning of this month that Lia Sophia, the family owned direct selling jewelry company, is closing. People who earned income working as independent Lia Sophia jewelry consultants didn't get months to prepare for the closure of their businesses. Instead, the independent Lia Sophia reps found out at the beginning of December about the company's plans to shut down, and they have up until December 31, 2014 to run their independent businesses. I thought about that and compared Lia Sophia's handling of their plans to shut down with how Helium Inc. informed me and the rest of the writers like myself who earned income from writing articles on Helium's website. Helium informed all of its writers in the spring of 2014 that the company would no longer be accepting article submissions to the website after a chosen date in the month of May 2014. However, we were still able to earn money on all of the articles we'd ever submitted to Helium and could accept payment for our articles until the website officially closed down on December 15, 2014. The overwhelmingly positive responses that I've received this year from people worldwide who read my articles has been very much appreciated by me. Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive!
I was very disappointed to learn that after four years of writing articles for Helium that I would no longer be able to work for them. However, I appreciate how Helium handled the process of shutting down the company, and that they gave us 7 months to print our articles, promote our articles, and accept payments for our work. It's unfortunate that the independent Lia Sophia reps did not get a lot of time to prepare for the shutting down of their businesses, but what I like about the direct selling industry is that there are always other opportunities to take part in. I encourage people who have been affected by Lia Sophia's closure to look into other direct selling opportunities. Similarly, I have looked into other paid writing opportunities and will be moving forward. When one door closes, another door opens! I know that I would act quickly and find a similar business to join if Passion Parties, the direct selling company that I'm an independent consultant with, were to shut down.
Each person handles loss differently, and that's perfectly fine. It is understandable to want to spend time lamenting a loss and wishing that things could be as they once were. However, I have learned during the year 2014 that a change is as good as a rest. Also, sometimes, change is very good and much needed. Some changes aren't positive, but there are many siliver linings to every rainbow. Sometimes, even though we may not realize it at first, a change is exactly what we need. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
